getting back on track

I’ve been “off the grid” for the past few weeks because my wife and I moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Beaverton, OR. (Beaverton. I still can’t get used to saying it. It doesn’t sound serious.) It’s a lovely area, but it’s going to take some time before I feel at home. In the last six months I’ve retired from my job of 36 years and moved from my life-long turf — California — so I’m feeling, shall I say, unmoored.

The last few weeks have been all about the exhausting process of packing, moving, and now, unpacking and picking up the loose ends. I’m sure many who’ve been through this can empathize when I say, “Never again!” We even had our cat as a traveling companion during the transition. I’ve gotta say, he was a trooper.

I’m starting to get back into some semblance of a routine. I don’t do things like writing well on-the-fly. A lot of interesting things have happened in medicine and science while I’ve been on this kind of hiatus. I hope to catch up or at least get back into the rhythm. Frankly, the Vortex is an attachment I need at this time.

P.S.: Since I’m new to the Portland area and much of it is marvelous. I’ll be adding some observations and discoveries about my new home into the mix on this blog. First installment is the thumbnail above from my backyard.
